The Karakachan or Bulgarian Sheep (Shepherd) Dog.

Karakachans, Maya and Sasha - nearly 10 weeks old already looking
much more mature
If you wanted to know which dogs it is that will take on wolves
and bears to protect their owners then look no further - the dog
is the Bulgarian Sheep Dog, also known as the Karakachan. This
fearless and most loyal of dogs is becoming the choice of people
all over
the world, but as you might imagine is particularly revered here
in Bulgaria.
Before I came to Bulgaria to live, I had researched the Karachan
dog, and became so impressed by this intelligent and loving working
dog that I got two, and they have turned out to be an
absolute delight. They are named Sasha and Maya, and they were
born on the
15th of August 2011. They were brought to me when they
were just 6 weeks old, whereas in the U.K. 8 weeks would be the
earliest
you
might
part
a puppy from its' mother.
The Karakachan is essentialy a working dog, used not
only for shepherding sheep, but also for guarding property, and
they are
highly
respected as 'security' dogs.
Sasha and Maya - although being sisters - are very different,
both in looks and in nature. As they grow I will post high resolution
photographs of the puppies, and tell the story of the changes to
them as they mature.
