The Resort of Sozopol in Bulgaria.

Bulgaria, Sozopol Beach early evening,
The first beach resort we ever visited in Bulgaria was Sozopol
- which was once a part of Greece - and if this small sandy bay
was a sign of better things to come, we knew we were in for a treat.
We arrived in the early evening and parked our hire car in a car
park by the sea, nearby, pleasure boats moored in the Black Sea
rocked
gently in the slight evening breeze. A short walk brought us to
a bright and lively craft market, where we meandered around for
quite some time. We walked a little further, until we came to
a sandy beach, along which we walked down to the sea. Taking off
our shoes we dipped our feet into the warm sea, and arm in arm
we strolled
along the sea shore. The lights of the buildings that strutted
out from the beach shone across the bay, and we noticed that one
was a sign that read 'Coral Hotel', so we headed for that.
We found the hotel, which was very modern, clean, and with a welcoming
and friendly staff, so we booked in for the night. In seaside terms
it was very cheap - In June 2010 it cost about £90 per doble room.
We went up to the rooms, turned on the air conditioning, and were
delighted to discover we had our own balcony. From there the reflection
of the multi coloured lights across the bay strayed down into the
darkness of
the Black
Sea,
and the air of relaxation within me became a peaceful breeze. We
went down to the Hotel's outside dining facility and ordered drinks,
whilst we pondered what sounded best on the menu. We spent a pleasant
hour or so there, and after digesting our lovely meals, we walked
around the town.
Sozopol is not one of those VERY noisy places at night, rather
there is the gentle sound of music coming from the bars, and what
sounded like a disco. We later retired to bed, having spent a lovely
evening, slept well, and ate a hearty breakfast. I have to admit
though, I would do allsorts for a full english breakfast!!
Sozopol, which is about 20 miles from the city of Burgas (Bourgas)
is an ancient town, and relics and the old remains of fortifications remain
to this day. A stroll through what is known as 'old Sozopol' is
delightful, with traditional wooden built Bulgarian houses.
